Mask Project

Gunslinger Custom Paint, a leader in custom paint and fabrication, lends a hand to The Denver Hospice by painting more than 55 of the masks for the Mask Project in Cherry Creek. The Mask Project is on display in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center and is a gallery of handcrafted clay masks by renowned artists, celebrities, sports figures, heroes and community leaders.

Headquartered in Golden, Colo., Gunslinger Custom Paint’s Art Director, John Pugh was approached by the Mask Project and asked Gunslinger to contribute their time and skills to the cause. Gunslinger gathered some of their most talented and nationally recognized airbrush artists, pinstripers to complete the project. Several of the masks were signed by local and national celebrities. Some of the famous faces that have contributed to the Gunslinger mask painting project include: John Elway, John Fox, John Hickenlooper, Tim Tebow, Lance Ball, Todd Helton, University of Colorado Football Club, Tad Boyle, head coach at CU, The Manhattan Transfer, Rebecca Rosen, Troy Tulowitzki and David Thompson.

“We are fortunate to have the opportunity to share our talents while contributing to such a worthy cause,” said Gunslinger Art Director, John Pugh.

Founded in 1998 by The Denver Hospice and the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, The Mask Project was designed to capture the imagination of Coloradans with a unique fundraiser. Mickey Ackerman, vice chairman of The Denver Hospice board of directors, founded the biennial community event. Since its inaugural year, The Mask Project has grown into a national event attracting masks by nationally-renowned artists, celebrities, sports figures, political and community leaders.

Since its launch, The Mask Project has raised nearly $4 million for hospice care in the Denver metro area. In 2010, The Mask Project was viewed by more than 1 million people who visited the Cherry Creek Shopping Center during the month-long exhibit of the gallery of masks. The online gallery drew thousands of hits over four weeks of online bidding.
